The A-26 Counter Invader flown by the Special Operations Squadron (Air Force Air Commandos) out of Nakhon Phanom for straffing and bombing missions on the North Vietnamese resupply trails along the banks of the Mekong River in western Laos. The A-26's in Thailand were Korean War versions pulled out of "moth balls" and retro-fitted at Davis Montham AFB in Arizona. Versions of this plane flew in WWII, the Korea and Vietnam wars.

Our usual mode of transportation around Thailand, the reliable C-47 Gooney Bird - every airbase had a couple

A 388th TFW F-105 Thunderchief, lovingly nicknamed the Thud and Lead Sled by its pilots. These planes flew from Korat and Takhli air bases on bombing missions over Hanoi and Haiphong in North Vietnam. Many did not make it back.
